2:12
“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof” (Psalm 24:1). Judah rightly belonged to God, and this included the people of Judah willingly worshipping the Lord. Judah had been cast off by God because of her sins, but this was only temporary. Jerusalem would again be chosen by God. This does not mean that God had stopped choosing Jerusalem, but that it would become the realised state of affairs.
2:13
“Be silent”. The nations, all flesh, thought they were in control of events, that things were going their way. Today in the West the nations think things are going their way, that God no longer has any part to play. It is foolishness to take such a view. For man is but flesh, not God. For a time it might seem as if God is off the scene, but man will find that this is not so and there will come a time when He is visibly active again.
