27:13-20
Initially things seemed to go well, but then a severe storm blew up. They couldn’t cope with the storm, and had to let themselves be driven along. They then managed to find some sort of shelter off an island called Clauda. We then get various details about how efforts were made to secure the ship, but all to no avail. So, note that Paul’s advice has been ignored, but he does not get all uppity about it, even though his warning proved to be prescient.
27:21
They had ignored Paul’s advice and he now speaks to them. Note that the fact that they had ignored his advice does not mean all was lost, nor that he should now do nothing to help them. He starts by reminding them that he had warned against their adopted course of action, he was doing this not in a “told you so” manner, but so that they would be more likely to pay attention to him now. People often have to go down the wrong road before they will listen and go down the right road. It applies to you and me, to our children, to people in church we may have oversight of.
