3:14
“He appointed twelve”, some manuscripts add “designating them apostles”, though that is probably a later addition. He chose them “to be with Him” and that “He might send them out to preach”. We are chosen to be with Jesus. We were not chosen to give merely intellectual or emotional assent to the gospel. We were chosen to be with Jesus to know Him and to be known by Him. They were also chosen to preach, so yet again we see the importance of preaching.
3:15
They were also given authority to drive out demons. Just as must not undermine the importance of preaching, nor must we neglect the driving out of demons. There is demonic activity in society and in individuals. We can, of course, go overboard on seeing demons under every stone, but we must not make the opposite error either.
