13:17-20
Amnon called his personal servant and had her evicted. Tamar had been wearing the traditional clothes for virgin daughters of the king. She tore this garment and put ashes on her head, and went away weeping loudly. Her brother Absalom saw and asked what had happened. It seems that he strongly suspected what had gone on. Tamar told him, and Absalom took her into his house and looked after her. She lived with him “a desolate woman”, this meant she was never married.
13:21,22
David heard about this and was furious. He was furious at Amnon, but possibly also at himself. Perhaps he realised that this was all down to his own sin and God’s judgement upon it. Absalom, meanwhile, refused to have anything to do with Amnon and hated him. David did nothing about Amnon, while Absalom let bitterness build up in his heart, and was waiting for the right moment to exact vengeance.
