13:5
Jonadab then comes up with a “cunning plan”. He advises Amnon to go to bed and pretend to be ill. The plan is that when David comes to see him, he will ask David to send Tamar to bring him something to eat. So David is unwittingly being drawn into the whole evil episode. David before his great sins may have been more spiritually astute and have suspected that something evil was going on. Sin dulls our senses.
13:6-9
So Amnon starts to execute the plan. David comes to see him, and Amnon requests that he send Tamar along. Tamar is the only character in this whole episode who comes out of it with any credit. Tamar went along and had taken the ingredients needed to bake the bread. She made the bread and took it to Amnon. Amnon refused to eat it, and then sent everyone else out of the room.
