Hebrews 4:15,16 - Let us approach God's throne of grace

 4:15

Implicit in the term high priest, is that He is an intermediary between us and God. He represents us before the Father. Now, since Jesus had “passed through the heavens”, since He is now seated at the right hand of God, one might think that He is out of reach. He is so exalted that He cannot have anything to do with us, but this is not so. Quite the opposite, for He is able to sympathise with our weaknesses. He “was tempted as we are”. Vital is also the fact that He was without sin. He is the perfect High Priest. For He both understands what we go through, and has overcome. The humanity and sinlessness of Christ are essential characteristics.

4:16

So, again, there is a consequence for us. We should approach the throne of grace, and we should do so with confidence. And we absolutely need to do this. For God knows all that we do and think. Without Christ we are in deep trouble. But we do have a high priest, and so instead of condemnation we receive mercy. We also “receive grace to help us in our time of need”. Grace helps us to keep going with God, it helps us to overcome.
