Hebrews 4:13,14 - Nothing is hidden from God's sight

 4:13

God knows all our thoughts and motives. Sometimes we knowingly try to obscure what we are doing, or our motives. We may be able to convince people, maybe even ourselves, but God always knows the truth, He knows what our true motives are, and it is ultimately to God that we must give an account.

4:14

Having everything laid bare before someone would be a scary concept. Someone who could see the true depths of sin within us. But we have in Jesus the Great High Priest. In most Bibles these verse receive a separate section heading, but the words here follow on naturally from the preceding section. We can let God see everything about us, we can rejoice in it, because we have a great high priest. The writer will later expand upon the question of priesthood, but brings out a couple of key points in these three verses, and even in this verse alone. First, He has passed through the heavens. Secondly, He is Jesus the Son of God. Jesus is our great high priest. There is a consequence of this for us , we must hold fast to our confession of faith.
