12:5,6
The lamb was to be without blemish. Mal 1:8 rebukes the people for offering blemished animals. On the positive side, Jesus was the perfect sacrifice, totally without sin. The lamb was a lamb, i.e. it was to be a year old, though it could be either a sheep or a goat. The whole congregation was to kill their lambs together at twilight. This was the only feast that began at night, and it involved the whole community. We matter as individuals, but we also matter as a group of people.
12:7-10
Some of the blood was to be daubed upon the doorposts and the lintels. The blood protected the entrance to the house. The lamb was to be eaten with unleavened bread and bitter herbs, and the lamb was to be roasted, rather than boiled and definitely not eaten raw. Moreover, none of it was to remain. Any “leftovers” were to be burnt.
