10:1,2
We are now onto the two penultimate plagues (if that makes sense!) Anyway, the eighth and ninth. Moses is told by God to go into Pharaoh yet again, and is told that God has hardened his heart. So the purpose here is not to get Pharaoh to set the Israelites free, he will only do this after the final plague, but to demonstrate God’s signs. And the purpose of this is so that the Israelites can tell their descendants, so that they may know that their God is the Lord. We need to know who God is. Jesus said (Matt 28:18) that He had been given all power and authority in heaven and on earth. We must never forget who Jesus is, otherwise we will start to go down wrong paths.
10:3-6
So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and gave him the word of the Lord, rebuking him for his stubbornness. He is given the warning of the plague that will come if he persists in his rebellious path. This time it will be a plague of locusts, something that can still be a terrible scourge on a land. The hail had devastated much of the crops, and the locusts would finish the job. They would be so numerous that they would fill the houses and completely overwhelm the land. Moses does not wait for Pharaoh’s answer, but turns away and leaves.
