Revelation 19:9,10 - Blessed are those who are invited

19:9

“Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”. Jesus said blessed are you when they persecute you (Matt 5:11). This is saying much the same thing. The Christians who were being persecuted were actually blessed because they had been invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb, they were in a blessed position. “These are the true words of God”, rather than the lies of the world.

19:10

John then fell at the feet of the angel. Why did he do this? Maybe he thought the angel was a representation of God. Or maybe the truth of what was going on had suddenly hit him and he was so filled with joy. Whatever the case, the angel instructed John not to do that, for he too was a fellow servant. In God’s kingdom angels and men work together. There are angels working in our lives, I do not mean this in any fanciful manner, but angels are part of God’s economy for the Bible makes it clear that this is the case. The angels work with those who “hold to the testimony of Jesus”. “Worship God!” is the command to all of us. “For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears witness to Jesus” (NIV), or “For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” (ESV). Note the juxtaposition of worshipping God and Jesus. All prophecy points to Jesus. Prophecy that does not point to Jesus really isn’t worth a lot. And prophecy is consistent with testifying to Jesus, and is consistent with the teaching and preaching of Jesus.
