Revelation 19:14,15 - The armies of heaven

19:14

The “armies of heaven” were dressed not in armour, but in “fine linen, white and pure”. Christ’s soldiers are washed in the blood of the lamb, and we clothe ourselves in righteous deeds. As Paul says in 2 Cor 10:4,5, we do not fight with the weapons of the world, but with divine weapons. So we fight differently, and our King is different, but in Christ we are powerful.  In Eph 6:12 Paul tells us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers. So fleshly weapons are not likely to be of any use! We need spiritual weapons!

19:15

Our weapons are spiritual, but that does not mean that they are weak. From the King’s mouth comes a sharp sword. And this sword, which is the word of God, strikes down nations! And Christ will rule them with a rod of iron. Christ was clothed in a robe dipped in blood, pointing to Calvary, but He will also “tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty”. This is not a picture that one hears much about in church, but it is part of the picture that the Bible gives, and we need to take on the whole teaching on Christ.
