7:22,23
These two verse show how serious the matter is. The people Jesus is referring to claimed to do miracles, prophesy and cast out demons, and all in Jesus’ name. Yet Jesus will say He never knew them, rejected them, and called them evildoers! Oh, how seriously we need to take things. How carefully we need to guard our hearts (Prov 4:23).
7:24
This is the end of the Sermon on the Mount, and this is one of Jesus’ most well known parables (especially if you remember the Riding Lights drama group!). Unfortunately it is one that is largely ignored! Notice what Jesus says in this verse. First, note the claim He makes to His own words. If Jesus is not God this would be blasphemous. He is claiming a divine authority. Then He says we need to hear His words and put them into practice. Then if we do this we are wise having built our lives upon a solid foundation.
7:25
Notice that the promise is not that nothing bad will happen to us. There will be times when storms do come against us. “Yet it did not fall”. If we actively trust in Christ then we are strong, the storms of life will not defeat us. Why, because our foundations are in Christ. He is our strength, He Is our righteousness, He is our wisdom.
