We now get a sudden change, or so it seems. For God now begins to speak of a day when a rescue that is greater than the rescue from Egypt will take place. A day of restoration is coming, a day when the people are rescued from all the lands they were banished to. So why all the prophecies of doom? One reason is that they happened, Babylon did crush Jerusalem. The greater reason is that we need to realise just how serious sin is. Look at most of the objections against God, most of them do not treat sin seriously, or overlook it altogether. God does not overlook it, cannot overlook it, and is absolutely right in this.
