Isaiah 5:25,26 - He lifts up a banner

5:25
“Therefore ...” The anger of the Lord is not capricious, nor is it uncontrolled rage. It is righteous judgement upon the sins and sinfulness of men. The Lord executed the judgement, the fact that corpses were piled in the streets justs add to the horror of the judgement. Even then His anger was not turned away, there was still more to come. So often our reaction to this sort of thing is “the Lord shouldn’t do such a thing”, or “how can the Lord do such a thing”? The right reaction would be “what have we done?” and “what do we need to do about it?”

5:26

The Lord will call the nations to execute the judgement. So while the nations will be the instrument of judgement, it is the Lord who is executing the judgement, and Isaiah is perfectly clear about this, and on several occasions. And they will come quickly!
