9:14,15
“Then the Lord will appear ..” Note that the Lord appearing does not happen until He has brought a change in His people. The Lord’s plans include changing the hearts of His people. Then the Lord will appear in mighty power. We want the Lord to demonstrate His power, thinking that then we will believe, but the Biblical pattern is more that after we put our trust in the Lord, then He will demonstrate His power.
9:16
“The Lord will save them”. We, and Israel, spend an awful lot of time trying to save ourselves, even of we call ourselves Christians, or think of ourselves as the people of God, as Israel did. Jesus walked on earth trusting completely in His Father. We too need to walk through life trusting in God, knowing that it is He who will save us. Then look at the picture of Israel when she is trusting in God. They are the “flock of His people”. They will be like the jewels in the crown, and will be lifted like a banner over His land. See that it is His land. The earth is the Lord’s. Our lives belong to God, yet so often we live as if it is my life, our earth. Only when we recognise the true ownership of the land and of our very lives will we find true peace, blessing and prosperity.
