Galatians 3:20,21 - Is the Law contrary to the Promise?

3:20
But God is one. There is a fundamental weakness in the Jewish belief that there was an intermediary, for God is one. Now Christ is the “intermediary” of the new covenant, but Christ is God. God is one being in three persons. It makes far better sense that the new covenant is entirely dependent upon God, as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Jews were giving a wrong place to the Law, and a wrong place to Moses.

3:21

So Paul has set up this seeming dichotomy between the Promise and the Law. Is the Law opposed to the Promise, for that is what Paul might seem to be saying in the eyes of some? Absolutely not. There is no conflict between the Law and the Promise, the conflict was between the Judaisers understanding of the Law and their understanding of the Promise. “For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law”. It has been empirically proven that the Law could not impart righteousness. Israel had proven this again and again, and Scripture clearly recorded this, again and again.
