Galatians 3:12,13 - Redeemed from the curse

3:12
Faith is the principle on which God wants us to live. The Law is not based on faith, or to be more precise, the principle of being righteous with God on the basis of observance of the Law is not based on faith. Rather, the Law is based on the principle of doing. We have satisfied the Law if and only if we have obeyed it.

3:13
In Christ we are redeemed from the curse of the Law, ie we are redeemed from the judgement of the Law, set free from the judgement. How was this achieved? By Christ becoming a curse for us, or in our place. Here we see the earlier definition of “curse” (God’s judgement on man’s sin) explains this very well. The judgement that should have been upon us was placed upon Christ. The is penal substitutionary atonement. Now there are some who deny penal substitution. I will be quite blunt here and say that such people are complete fools. Tell me this, on what basis are you going to stand before God as righteous? I know full well that unless Christ has paid the price for my sins, borne the judgement that should be mine, then I am without hope. Thankfully, He has borne that judgement, and has therefore redeemed me from the curse of the Law.
