13:8,9
If we claim to be prophets when we are not, if we speak lies claiming we are speaking on behalf of the Lord, then the Lord is actively opposed to us. This is the simple truth. Note the phrase “false words and lying visions”, there is no messing about the bush about the nature of the words of the false prophets. So the false prophets will be struck out of the book of life, they will not be part of God’s kingdom. Seeking to win popularity with people at the expense of “popularity” with God is a foolish way to go. Then they will discover who the Lord truly is.
13:10-12
The false prophets preached peace when there is no peace (Jer 6:14). There is an excellent correlation between Jeremiah and Ezekiel. They told the people that everything was OK when it was far from OK. All the people desperately needed to repent, then things would have been OK. Likewise, those who are sin-affirming Christians are doing the people they claim to love an enormous disservice. The false prophets covered the crumbling wall with whitewash. It may have covered over the cracks for a time, but only for a time. The walls would still eventually collapse. Then the false prophets would look the fools that they always were.
