13:20,21
Just as the Lord was opposed to the male false prophets, He was against the women prophets as well, who ensnared people with their charms. God would set the people they ensnare free. False teachers and prophets may claim to love people and to be offering them freedom, but in reality they are just ensnaring them. Only the Lord can set people free. As Jesus said, the truth will set you free (John 8:32). The people would no longer fall prey to the power of these women prophets.
13:22,23
“Because you disheartened the righteous with your lies”. False teachers do dishearten the righteous. We need to hold on to the truth and to resist falsehood, but we also need to recognise that it is discouraging when we hear false teachers, it tends to sap our strength. Now He who is in us is stronger than he who is in the world, and by remaining faithful to the Lord we will overcome, but we do need to recognise the nature of the battle.
The false prophets encouraged the wicked not to turn from their ways. In the same way, sin-affirming churches are encouraging people not to repent. The simple fact is that they will pay a price for this. “I will save my people from your hands”. God has not given up on His people.
