Ezekiel 13:13-19 - I will pour out my wrath

13:13-17

“In my wrath ...” We don’t like the idea of God’s wrath, but it is a fundamental part of who He is. So we can try and ignore it, or pretend it is just an Old Testament thing, a product of primitive thinking, but such ideas are totally without Biblical foundation. There is as much about the wrath of God in the New Testament as there is in the Old. God’s wrath is both passionate and absolutely righteous and rational.  It is a detestation of sin and its effects. So Jerusalem would experience the wrath of God for all its sins. The false prophets, and those who covered over the cracks with whitewash would suffer the consequences of their actions.

13:17-19

It wasn’t just men who were leading the country astray, it was female prophets as well. There are not many direct mentions of female prophets, but there are some. The New Testament also has female prophets, so it would seem that female prophets were a reasonably common thing. They too were prophesying out of their imagination. They were even getting involved in idol worship, sewing magic charms. There are “prophets” today who can get involved in gnostic or other dubious types of practices. “By lying to my people, who listen to lies, you have killed those who should not have died and have spared those who should not live”. Their practices had serious and dire consequences.
