1:16
The Ephesians did believe in Christ and were showing love for all the saints. So Paul gave thanks to God for this, for God had poured out His grace upon the Ephesians. Note that “love for all the saints”, means “love for all those set apart by God for a purpose”. We are to value each other as people, but with fellow believers there should be something more. God has a purpose for that person. Sometimes we can look at someone and just think they are a very nice person (which they may well be!) but they are more than that. At other times there can be people we look at and all we see is a bundle of problems. There may well be a bundle of problems, but God is a God of grace and power, and He has a plan for that person. Paul also prayed for them. God choosing us does not mean that is the end of the story, it does not mean there is nothing for us to do! You cannot read a single page of the Bible and believe that! There is much to do, there is much for us to do in our own lives, and in the lives of others, and part of that is praying for each other.
