Jonah 2:3-6 - I am driven from your sight

2:3
Jonah starts by describing the circumstances he is in and how he feels.  If we look at the Psalms we notice that in many of them the writer, usually David, describes how he feels. We often say we should live by faith not feelings, and there is a strong degree of truth in this. However, there is no Biblical justification for ignoring our feelings, we should take them before God. Problems arise if we think we should be ruled by our feelings, we shouldn’t, but we should not pretend that we do not have them. Moreover, God cares about our feelings in a deeper way than we ever imagine.

2:4-6

Jonah knew he had been banished from God’s sight, and because of his rebellion. However, he still had hope and believed that he would look again on God’s holy temple. The thoughts described in verse 5 are consistent with him actually having been swallowed by the sea. In fact verse 5 and 6 describe Jonah sinking to the bottom of the sea. It would seem that the fish rescued Jonah from this predicament.
