8:5
The angel then took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it down upon the earth. This was accompanied by “peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake”. Something momentous was going to happen, and this was partly the result of the prayers of the saints. Yet we will soon read that this “something” was in many ways quite horrific. So how does this all fit together? While the events might look horrific, God is actually working out His plan. In a way this is just like the cross. For the cross was horrific, yet God was working out His plan of salvation in it.
8:6
There are similarities in the pattern of the seven trumpets and that of the seven seals. There is a group of four, then a group of three, and the final one is separated from the previous six. The seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to blow them. We are not told here how they prepared, only that they did prepare. From the previous verses we can deduce that the prayers of the saints played a part in the preparation.
