2:20-23
Daniel then breaks out into a hymn of praise to the Lord. Praise belongs to God for ever and ever. Praise belongs to God today. No matter what the circumstances God can enable us to overcome. Many groups claim to have wisdom and power, but it is God to whom true wisdom and power belong. He changes times and seasons. Various rulers may think that they are in charge, but that is not true. It is God who gives power to men, and He can and does depose them and raise up new rulers as he chooses. In John 19:11 Jesus told Pilate that he would have no power unless God had given it to him.
Wisdom belongs to God and He gives wisdom to the wise, and Daniel was a recipient of this. God is light and He can reveal “deep and hidden things”, and “knows what lies in darkness”. God had revealed to Daniel what Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams were and what they meant.
2:24
Having received the answer Daniel goes to Arioch telling him not to execute the wise men of Babylon. The king’s evil decree would have affected Daniel and his friends, but God’s blessing to Daniel would also affect all the wise men. Instead Arioch should take Daniel to the king so he can interpret the dream.
