1:9
It is not just a matter of the Lord telling us what to do, He also anoints us and equips us. So the Lord touched Jeremiah’s mouth, and declared “I have put my words in your mouth”. In a general sense God has done this for all of us who believe. The gospel is the word of God, the Bible is the word of God. And we should rely on this word, certainly far more than relying on the “wisdom” of the world. Sadly so much of the church seems to go down the latter route, how foolish we can be! God may also do this on a more specific level, giving His word for a particular situation or circumstance.
1:10
Jeremiah was given an awesome task. He was appointed over nations and kingdoms. He would uproot, tear down, destroy, overthrow, build and plant. Now look at what happened to Jeremiah. This was no wealth and power anointing in a worldly sense! The nation hated him for the most part, he was under pressure, and at times held in captivity. So how did he have this “power”? It was God who had the power, and Jeremiah was to declare the word of God. The word of God is powerful because it expresses God’s heart and His intentions. So when we faithfully declare the word of God we are declaring what God will do. In practical terms, Jeremiah really only saw the tearing down part, but he prepared the way for the building.
