Colossians 1:11,12 - May you be strengthened with all power

1:11
Living a life worthy of the Lord is no mean feat, added to which we are bear fruit in every good work. How can we do this? The answer is not in our own strength,  but in God’s strength. Rather we are “strengthened with all power according to His glorious might”. What does this power result in? We might expect something dramatic, but instead we get “great endurance and patience”. So much of the long lasting achievements in life are not made by flamboyant displays, but the someone enduring all things and just keep on going.

1:12

Endurance and patience conjure up a picture of a hard slog, and at times life is like that, but it is not just that. We will also be giving joyful thanks to the Father. Why will we be joyfully giving thanks when we are battling away? Because we have been “qualified to share in the inheritance of His holy people in the kingdom of light”. We need to be looking for the end result, we need to be eschatologically minded, but not in the “left behind” way! There is a great reward that awaits us if we persevere in Christ.
