Isaiah 66:19-24 - The new heavens and the new earth

66:19
The world and the devil aim to shut God up, to stop people hearing about Him. And we very much see that in our society today. A society that would love never to hear another word of the Lord. But they will fail, for God will send people to all the ends of the earth, proclaiming His glory. This very much ties in with the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19,20.

66:20,21
“And they will bring all your people ...” God’s plans, as revealed in Isaiah, are to take His salvation to all the world, to bring people from all nations into the kingdom, but they also remain centered on Jerusalem and we need to remember this. I must admit I cannot understand how anyone can think that Israel no longer has a special place in God’s plans. They are included in God’s salvation plan, He has not given up on Israel.

66:22-24

“As the new heavens and new earth will endure, so your name will endure”. God has an eternal plan for His people. And God’s plan involves all mankind bowing down before Him. See the significance of this in the light of Phil 2:10,11. Then the closing verse reminds us of what the end is for those who persist in rebellion. And verse 24 needs to be borne in mind when reading what Jesus said about hell if we are to understand it aright. And when thinking about hell we should always look at it in the context of man’s rebellion against God, and God’s judgement upon that rebellion.
