11:41,42
It is an indication of the regard that Jesus was held in that they did take away the grave stone. Jesus prays aloud to His Father. The prayer indicates that Jesus had already asked God to raise Lazarus, this prayer being a prayer of thanksgiving. Jesus prayed aloud for the benefit of those around Him, so that they could better understand who He was, namely that He is the One that the Father has sent. Everything is focused on Jesus.
11:43,44
Jesus then cried out in a loud voice “Lazarus, come out”. “The man who had died” came out. John is emphasising the fact that Lazarus had actually died. He was wrapped in grave clothes. This was not embalming or mummification as the Egyptians carried out, so he would be able to walk. Jesus then tells them to take the grave clothes off Lazarus, “and let him go”.
