49:14,15
Issachar gets a rather mixed prophecy. Later on we do get told that the sons of Issachar understood the times, and the prophecy here indicates that Issachar would be strong and would keep an eye on situations. He would be prepared for hard labour in order to achieve a goal.
49:16-18
Dan is an ambiguous tribe. The name comes from the Hebrew for judge, and Dan should have been the judge of her people. However, Dan they were not a good tribe, as illustrated by Judges 18, and the tribe was not mentioned in the list of tribes in Rev 7:5-8. Verse 18 could be a prayer from Jacob indicating his recognition that salvation from the Lord was the only basis for hope.
