Isaiah 1:22-25 - I will turn my hand against you

1:22,23
The silver and wine were meant to be examples of finery, elegance. But the silver had become dross, the wine diluted. Israel had so many good things from God, the Law and all the history, but she had corrupted all these, mixed them with other things, so that now they were utterly worthless. Financial corruption was rife as well, as it usually is when a society is in a state of collapse. People seek financial reward above justice and truth. Defending the widows and the fatherless should be the top priority of leaders, not making a fast buck! “Widows and fatherless” represent the oppressed and needy in general. In that day a widow or a fatherless child were particularly vulnerable.

1:24,25

This would be quite astounding for the people of Jerusalem and Judah, for they thought of the surrounding nations as their enemies and God’s enemies. Yet here we see God saying that there are enemies within Israel. God will avenge Himself on these enemies. The dross and mixture in the land, in the life of the land, would be removed. All mixture would be gone. We need to understand that a key part of God’s plan and His working is to bring purity.
