1 Corinthians 15:39-44 - Raised in glory

15:39-41
God gives different creatures different kinds of bodies. Moreover, there are all sorts of wonderful things in the universe. Living creatures are amazing, but so are the celestial bodies, the stars, sun and moon etc. Again, we see Paul viewing all creation as reflecting God’s glory and demonstrating something of His nature and of spiritual truths.

15:42
So the life-cycle of a seed is a clue to the resurrection. We must die, then we will be raised, but our resurrection body, while absolutely real, will be radically different from our present body. Our current body is perishable, we will be raised imperishable. Decay is a normal part of this life. Our bodies wear out, things don’t work as well as they used to, and eventually stop altogether. But our resurrection bodies will be imperishable, there will be no decay.

15:43
A corpse, which is the destiny of us all in this life, is not an honourable thing. We may die of a disease or of old age, and our bodies may be in a very poor state indeed, but we will be raised in glory. A dead body has no power, at the end of our lives we have ever diminishing power, but our resurrection bodies will be powerful. In Christ we have a real future and a glorious future.

15:44

“It is raised a spiritual body”. Now this does not in any way mean we will not have a body, or that our resurrection bodies will in some way be unreal. As Paul says in the second half of the verse, as there is a physical body, so there is a spiritual body. We will be radically different.
