15:24,25
So why not now? Because there is work to be done! Christ is going to destroy all power, authority and dominion. When we see power and dominion in the world we need not be afraid, for Christ will destroy all. Christ will give the kingdom to the Father. Christ’s objective is to put all power and dominion under His feet. We need to understand that this is what Christ is doing in the world, but it will not be done in the way we expect.
15:26
The last enemy is death. The defeat of death is assured by Christ’s resurrection from the dead. However, the actual defeat of death in terms of it becoming effective in our own lives will be the last victory. When Christ returns we will be raised, never to die again.
15:27,28
Now these verses are the subject of current controversy. The first part is straightforward. All things are put in subjection under Christ. Christ is Lord of all, everything is put under His feet. We need to know that we serve the risen Lord, the one who has all power and authority (Matt 28:18). We are not following a mere good man, but the Lord of All. The controversy arises over v28 when it says the Son will be subjected to Him (the Father). The argument is about eternal subordination. When Jesus was on earth He lived under the Father’s authority, in a sense He was subordinate to the Father. The argument is over whether He is eternally subordinate to the Father. It is perhaps helpful to remember that in God’s kingdom subordination does not imply inferiority. Moreover, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit exist in perfect harmony, working together as one. Furthermore, while God is three persons, He is one being. You can find some useful articles here. It s important to note that the eternal subordination of the Son is not the same as subordinationism which is a heretical doctrine which views the Son and Spirit as inferior to the Father.
