Hebrews 3:5,6 - Faithful

3:5
The quote comes from Numbers 12:7, which comes from a section where Aaron and Miriam are speaking against Moses because of his Cushite wife. There are two notable things about this. The first is that God intervenes directly, defending Moses. The second is that the Lord stresses the fact that He speaks face to face with Moses. The section (Num 12:8) closes with the words “Why then are you not afraid to speak against my servant of Moses?”

3:6
So this was how God expected the people to respect Moses. How much more should they respect and listen to Jesus? Despite the closeness with God, Moses was still just a servant in the house. Moses was faithful, Christ was even more faithful, and He was faithful as a Son. In John, Jesus repeatedly emphasises that He comes direct from heaven, that He speaks the very words of God. Jesus knows exactly what He is talking about, so we should be especially careful to listen to Him.

We are the house of God, the dwelling place, but we must hold firmly to our confidence, and the hope to which we have been called.
