Exodus 32:25-27 - Who is on the Lord's side?

Prov 29:18 says that where there is no vision the people cast off restraint. It says here that the people “had broken loose”. They had no vision, and so they cast off restraint. It then says that Aaron had let them break loose. The people had responsibility for their actions, and Aaron had responsibility as a leader. So often the people will blame the leaders, and leaders will blame the people. It is far better if we all take responsibility for the position we are in.

Moses then called on the people who were for the Lord to gather around him, and all the members of the tribe of Levi gathered around him. They were then to be given an awful charge. They were to take a sword and slaughter “his brother and his companion and his neighbour”. This was killing those who persisted in their idolatry. There is obviously a gruesomeness to all this, the other aspect we should focus on is the dedication to the Lord.
