1:16-18
So what is all this about? It is at the heart of creation and our salvation. We were made in the image of God, to be like Him. We have been saved in order to become ever more Christlike. Not realising that this is the case is at the root of much wrong thinking. The Lord gives us perfect gifts, desires that are not Christlike are not from God. As it says in v13 we should not say “God is tempting me”. In today’s issues, “God made me this way” as an excuse for sin is a lie. God did not “make us this way”, “sin corrupted this way” is a more accurate statement. V18 expresses the purpose of the gospel, “He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all He created”.
