Ezekiel 20:13-20 - They did not follow my decrees

However, the rebelliousness of the people had not been dealt with, their hearts were still corrupt. So they did not keep God’s laws nor His Sabbaths. So most of them died in the desert. However, this did not apply to all of them. The adults all died (except Caleb and Joshua), but the children went into the Promised Land. The children too were instructed in the ways of the Lord, to keep His commands and to keep His Sabbaths. They were not to follow their parents' ways. Note that this fits in with the teaching in Ezekiel on “the one who sins is the one who will die”.  So we see here the wrath and the grace of God. The generation that sinned did not enter the Promised Land, the next generation was allowed to enter, but they too had to keep the Law for themselves.
