Jeremiah 8:8,9 - The wise will be put to shame

8:8

They claimed to be wise, and the grounds for this claim were that they had the “law of the Lord”. However, the Scribes had “handled it falsely”. God describes them as having “lying pens”, so they attributed to God things that were not of God. We can see the same phenomenon all too often today. So-called liberal or progressive “Christians” will claim that they are acting or speaking in accordance with the Bible, when they are doing no such thing. The same can also apply to all of us. We need to be careful to read the word of God properly.

8:9

The “wise” or the “elite” as we may call them today, will be put to shame. In the present they claim to know it all, to be proud of their understanding, but we should not fear when people go against God’s word. “If they have rejected the word of the Lord, what kind of wisdom do they have?” If some idea or teaching goes against God’s word then it is utterly worthless.
