Hosea 13:10,11 - Where is your king?

13:10
In the days of Samuel Israel demanded a king. At the time this angered and upset Samuel, but God told him to grant their request, and said that they were rejecting God not Samuel. (1 sam 8:6-10). She had kings and princes but they did not save her, they provided no protection. We can make a similar mistake. We think there is something we desperately need in order to make us happy, or to save us from some danger or other. The urge to have this thing in our lives is so strong, but we need to know that it will not save us. Only the Lord will save us, true rest and peace is found in Him alone.

13:11

“I gave you a king in my anger, and took him away in my wrath.” The Lord let Israel have a king as judgement upon them. Israel thought having a king would help them, but it did not. For the root of sin was within their hearts, and the root of sin produced its inevitable fruit, and so the nation came under God’s wrath.
