Acts 11:19-21 - The Lord's hand was with them

11:19
We continue the story of how the gospel broke out into the Gentile world. The killing of Stephen and the subsequent persecution led to the scattering of disciples throughout the region, reaching Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch. They spread the word as they went, but only among the Jews. Remember these disciples at the time had not heard about Peter’s meeting with Cornelius. We can also see that God is working events out, and that various necessities are worked out along the way. God does not, from our perspective, have worked out at the beginning. From an eternal perspective He does of course have everything worked out, it is just that we don’t get to know about it! We need to remember this when God leads us down various roads. It may seem that some insurmountable obstacle is in the way, or something crucial has been overlooked. We can and should trust God.

11:20,21

Although most restricted their evangelism to the Jews, there were some who broke out and spoke to the Greeks as well. They gave them the same message, ie the good news about Jesus Christ. Just as the Lord was with Peter, so He was with these disciples and a “great number” of people believed in the Lord.
