Acts 4:21-26 - Lifting their voices to God

4:21,22
These two verses highlight impotency of the Sanhedrin. They made further threats because that was all they could do. The actions of God Himself meant all the people were praising God, so it was politically impossible for the Sanhedrin to act. This sort of thing also occurred during Jesus’ ministry. We should also remember that ultimately Jesus was crucified, and later on various apostles and other disciples will be persecuted, even killed. God acts, He always acts. Sometimes this is obviously to our advantage, as here. At other times it may involve us suffering, but it will always to be further His purposes. The man who had been healed, and had been lame from birth, was forty years old. So everyone know that the miracle was completely genuine.

4:23-26

Peter and John reported back to the church what had been said to them. The people responded by praying to God and praising Him. The starting point was how great God is, He is the one who created all things. Then they quoted from Psalm 2:1,2, a psalm about the futility of men raging against God, against His anointed one. There are several key things to note here. One is that the starting point is God and who He is. We always do well to make Him the starting point, then we are far more likely to see things in proper perspective. Then they quoted from a Psalm. Knowing the Scriptures will help us to see things that happen today in context. Finally, it was not Peter and John who were the real “targets”, but the Messiah, Jesus Christ. It was Him that the Sanhedrin were plotting against.
