1:9-12
Ahab had sent a captain with fifty men to find Elijah. It is interesting that although Ahab despised Eliajh he still wanted to find him. The captain addresses Elijah as “Man of God”,but Ahab did not listen to Elijah, despite the events of Mount Carmel,so Elijah gives him another demonstration, fire comes down from heaven and consumes the captain and his men.This happened to two captains.
1:13-16
Ahab sent a third captain. This captain knew what had happened to the previous two and decided a different approach was required. He fell on his knees before Elijah and pleaded for mercy. The angel of the Lord told Elijah to go with the man to the king, and Elijah did as he was told. Elijah spoke directly to the king, asking why he sought the Baals instead of the Lord.
