Micah is quite distraught at all this and we get a graphic picture of him reacting to the word of God. The description combines images of mourning and desolation. Going around “stripped and naked” seems rather extreme to us, but it probably signifies going into exile.
1:9
The reason for all this is that “her wounds are incurable”. Similar terminology can be found in Jer 30:12. Then of course we have the famous verse in Is 53:5 “by His wounds we are healed”. And this latter verse is usually quoted right out of context. The wounds here refer to Israel and Judah’s sin and all that that brings with it. “It has come to the gate of my people, to Jerusalem. When Assyria invaded Judah she did get to the gates of Jerusalem, but no further. At that point she was stopped by God.
