There had been no rain, and so there was a severe famine. Ahab was trying to find Elijah
18:3-6
Obadiah was a man of God, and also the palace administrator. God sometimes has people in the heart of the enemy's territory. Obadiah used his position to protect the prophets of God. Jezebel was trying to kill all the servants of the Lord. Ahab was getting desperate and sent Obadiah to try and find some grass to keep the livestock alive, Ahab joined Obaadiah in this task.
